Portugal & SL Benfica Winger Simão Sabrosa One Step Closer To Liverpool Move After President Gives Green-Light

Portugal and SL Benfica winger Simão Sabrosa has moved a step closer to a summer transfer to Liverpool after Benfica’s President has said that the talented Portugal star is allowed to leave the Estádio da Luz in the summer.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder, currently on World Cup duty with Portugal in Germany, came very close to making a move to Liverpool last summer before the deal was pulled at the last minute after Benfica increased the asking-price.

He further compounded things by scoring a terrific goal in Benfica’s Champions League match at Anfield, when he scored a long-range screamer to help knock the European Champions out of the competition.

Benfica President Luis Vieira, speaking to Portuguese sports newspaper Record said: “We have already received several offers for other Benfica players, but only one of our players will be able to leave the club, and that is Simão.”

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will have to wait until Portugal's World Cup finishes before he can finalise the deal, but it is now expected to go through before mid-July.
