Portugal beat Luxembourg 3-0 in their final warm-up match at the Stade Saint-Symphorien, Metz, France, on Saturday. Two goals from Benfica’s Simao Sabrosa and another from Inter Milan’s Luis Figo gave the Portuguese the perfect finish to their preparations. Simao scored his first just after half time, knocking in after Jonathan Joubert in the Luxembourg goal had saved a Helder Postiga drive.
Simao’s second came after 72 minutes when he converted the penalty awarded following a trip by Alphonse Leweck on Figo. Figo scored his goal after 85 minutes, converting neatly on the left from Ricardo Carvalho’s long-range pass.
Portugal created several chances to score in the first half but Luxembourg defended in depth and were able to hold out until the interval. Portugal are in Group D alongside Mexico, Angola and Iran.
