Portugal Beat Cape Verde Islands 4-1 With A Hat-Trick From PSG's Pedro Pauleta
Portugal have beaten the Cape Verde Islands 4-1 in their World Cup warm-up friendly at the Estadio do Lusitano in Portugal with PSG striker Pedro Pauleta scoring a hat-trick.
The Paris St. Germain striker opened the score-line in the first minute of the match, and had the run-of-play throughout the game, but not everything went the way Portugal head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari would have wanted.
Portuguese defender Fernando Meira scored an own-goal to draw things level for the African minnows in the 21st minute to give the World Cup finalist’s a brief scare, but Pauleta gave Portugal the lead going into half-time with a goal in the 38th minute.
Portugal's third goal was scored by Benfica midfielder Armando Petit 15 minutes into the second-half, with Pauleta securing his hat-trick, and Portugal's fourth goal seven minutes from time to give the hosts a morale-boosting win.
Portugal have been drawn in Group D in the World Cup Finals, alongside Mexico, Iran and newcomers Angola.
