Portsmouth Boss Harry Redknapp May Swoop For Chelsea & Germany Defender Robert Huth After He Fails Middlesbrough Medical

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is ready to make a bid for Chelsea and Germany defender Robert Huth after his move to the Riverside Stadium fell through at the last minute.

The German international, who made his Premiership debut for Chelsea against Aston Villa in March 2002, was set to leave Stamford Bridge for Middlesbrough, but the deal fell through earlier this week after Huth failed his medical with Middlesbrough.

Early last week Huth made a verbal agreement with new Boro manager Gareth Southgate to sign with Middlesbrough, with Southgate confirming a few days later that the club would not be signing Huth, after failing his medical due to an ankle injury.

Portsmouth boss Redknapp has now confirmed that he is considering a swoop for the 21-year-old to Fratton Park for a fee reported to be around £4million.

“I'm not sure what's happening with Huth now his move to Middlesbrough has fallen through, but I like him,” said Redknapp. “He's a big, strong lad to have at the back.”

Redknapp has already secured a loan deal with Huth’s Chelsea team-mate Glen Johnson, who will be joining Portsmouth on a years loan.
