Manchester United's manager Sir Alex Ferguson branded Patrice Evra as one of the best full-backs in Europe and feeds high hopes for the 24-years-old French international. Evra is eager more challenging opportunities secure a spot in the French national football squad.

Patrice Evra eyes a spot in the France national football squad for the World Cup Finals in Germany. The Senegal-born international hopes that his move to Old Trafford will be a big advantage for his career, as he considers it as a more recognised Football Club than AS Monaco.

"I was consistent with my form at Monaco and by repeating that consistent form here, and hopefully playing as regularly as possible, and with it obviously being a bigger club I think it's more striking for the international manager," Evra told in the official news conference the Club held for announcing the transfer.

After a disappointing 2002 World Cup for France, who failed to score a goal in the tournament, Raymond Domenech is making solid plans for a different appearance this time. Evra faces stiff competition from his team-mates for a spot in the national squad.

"Hopefully with all that taken into account it will make it more difficult for him not to take me... It was an easy decision to make based on two reasons, the history of Manchester United and the stability of the club."

"I had made that choice in my head, even if other teams were mentioned. Monaco is a big club with some good players but Manchester United have some absolutely great players and my job is not to talk to the press, but repay the confidence of the Manchester United manager and directors on the pitch and not with words."

Evra will cover Man-Utd's leftback position while Gabriel Heinze is out of action, recovering from his knee injury.

"He has emerged as one of the best full-backs in Europe and we are very happy to have secured his services for three-and-a-half years," Sir Alex Ferguson said.

Manchester United are going through their worst season for years, having been knocked out of the Champions League and not even making it to the UEFA Cup. Ferguson is looking to bolster his team, but not necessarily for this season, as they are well behind Chelsea in the English Premiership.

The team's targets are a Champions League ticket for next season and focusing on developing a strong team that could challenge Chelsea, Liverpool and other European teams in the Champions League. The primary goal for Alex Ferguson is to make the players adapt together with Man-Utd's game.

"We have probably been short of cover in that position and he will us a different alternative to Gabby. Patrice is a very attacking player and that's a great option for us now," Ferguson said.
