Paraguay were down to 10-men within the first 2 minutes of the match after Paraguay goalkeeper Aldo Bobadilla was sent off after Bobadilla brought down Nery Castillo in the area, with Mexico awarded a penalty, which Castillo despatched well.
Two goals from Olympiakos striker Nery Castillo (including the one from the penalty-spot), and another strike from Gerardo Torrado gave El Tri the lead into half-time.
After having gone into the break 3-0 up, Mexico continued their pressure and scored the fourth goal in the 79th minute with a strike from Fernando Enrique Arce, with Cuauhtémoc Blanco scoring from the penalty-spot for Mexico’s fifth goal in the 86th minute and Omar Bravo sealing a sensational 6-0 win in injury-time to guarantee Mexico a Semi Final encounter against either Argentina or Peru, who play later on Sunday.
Paraguay are now out of the tournament, and will have to regroup after the savage defeat to the Copa América 2007 favourites.
