The agent of Barcelona's striker Javier Saviola confirmed that Panathinaikos FC in Greece have made an offer for the Argentinian, while Liverpool FC manager Rafael Benitez is rumoured to have instructed the Club to make all the necessary arrangements to bid on the player.

Saviola's agent, Alfredo Cabrerra, confirmed to Greek press representatives that people from Panathinaikos' management contacted him about signing the player on a loan deal with Barcelona, said to be worth about 2.5 million.

His son gave a short interview with website sportime.gr and said that although the two sides failed to reach an agreement last year, nothing can be taken for granted, as the player has yet to decide where he wants to continue his career.

Javier Saviola's contract with European Champions Barcelona runs until 2007, but team officials have confirmed that although the player played very well for Argentina, he is not included in the manager's plans for next year and that he is unlikely to play next season.

However, the fact that Panathinaikos have not made it to the Champions League is considered as a negative, and the player will probably look for a move to the English Premiership. They will be playing in next season’s UEFA Cup, as they finished third in the Greek Premier League.

There have been many rumours around the web for a possible Liverpool move, however Club officials or Rafael Benitez himself has not confirmed anything until the time of this writing.
