England international midfielder Owen Hargreaves is on track to make his comeback for Bayern Munich when the Bundesliga season resumes at the end of January.

Out since suffering an injury which saw his leg being broken, in the middle of September, Hargreaves, who also plays as a right-back, is recovering quite well and could play in the January 26 match against BV Borussia Dortmund, Bayern coach Felix Magath said.

Hargreaves, who is being pursued by Premiership leaders Manchester United, took part in their first full team training sessions on the last day of Bayern's Dubai winter training camp.

Bayern’s medical team will closely monitor the 25-year-old defensive midfielder’s progress over the intervening period.

Blessed with a powerful stamina, the Calgary-Canada born Hargreaves, the only England player in history who has neither lived nor played club football in England, however sounded cautious over his expected return to match fitness. "It's not that decisive that I make it to the first Bundesliga match," he said.

Bayern are drawn to square up against Real Madrid in the first knockout round of the UEFA Champions League. The home and away legs will be played on February 20 and March 7.

And Hargreaves is an important component of their set-up with sporting director Uli Hoeness declining to accept any offer for the player saying that Bayern are not a bank and are more concerned about making sure they have their best team for the Champions League.

However, in the first week of January, Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer said that the Bundesliga club should consider selling Hargreaves with a £20million price tag.
