Real Madrid’s hopes of freeing midfielder David Beckham from his Los Angeles Galaxy contract have been shattered by the Major League Soccer club’s insistence that there is no clause as reported in Spain on Monday, which could help Fabio Capello’s side to retain the England international beyond this season.

The 32-year-old former Manchester United star also stated his desire to stick to his contract with the Americans.

Real are on the verge of winning the La Liga title after a four-season gap with Beckham playing a vital role in their current set-up, especially since he came back from Capello-enforced exile in January.

The Italian coach has earlier admitted that it was in fact a mistake to have dropped Beckham, following his announcement of a contract with Galaxy in the January transfer window.

Real president Ramon Calderon had yesterday disclosed that the club will try to buy out Beckham from Galaxy.

Meanwhile, Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas has said that the former England skipper, who will end his Real career at the weekend, will not be straightaway pushed into the American season, which is already underway.

“We know he's not a robot, he's a human being, and there will be a period of physical and mental rest that he needs and we want to make sure he gets that,” he said.

“We know he's going to be coming off a pretty intensive season in Madrid that is hopefully going to finish with a league title.”
