Newcastle winger Nolberto Solano has made a declaration that he is definitely available for selection for the Peru squad as the national team ready themselves for the Copa America 2007 in Venezuela, but adds that he won’t beg for a place in the squad to Peru head coach Julio Cesar Uribe. The 32-year-old, who made his name at Peruvian first division side Sporting Cristal after joining in 1992 at the age of 17, has also played for Argentinian giants Boca Juniors, before moving to Newcastle United in 1998 and, despite a brief stint at Aston Villa, returned to confirm himself as a favourite with the Magpies fans. Solano made his full international debut for Peru at the age of 18, earning over 70 international caps for Peru. He has been a key member of the squad during the late 90’s, up until 2005, when Solano decided to quit the Peruvian national football team due to disagreements with the coach at the time, Freddy Ternero. He briefly returned to the fold In 2006, when he returned to the national team under coach Franco Navarro, but has since been ignored by the new Peru head coach Julio Cesar Uribe. Solano, speaking recently to Peruvian Radio, confirmed his availability for the South American tournament, but also noted that he doesn’t expect to be recalled, saying: "I am not going to hang a placard on my neck and I am not going to go down on one knee asking for a recall. "I want to make it clear that I have never said that I don't want to play for the national team again." "I notice that the current coach Julio Cesar Uribe doesn't count on me because I have to report to Newcastle," said Solano. "But I don't know what is going to happen." Since then Uribe has stated that Solano's international career is not over, but wasn't definite as to whether Solano is going to feature for Peru in this years Copa America. Uribe said: "I'm going to talk with him next week. It's the right moment to do it and give him some peace." Adding: "Solano's determination to be in the squad is remarkable. I'm going to call him for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, as I've already decided the 22-man list ahead the Copa America." in favorites | email this page
