Newcastle’s Owen & Chelsea’s Lampard In England Squad For Euro Qualifiers – Debut Chance For Ashton, Young & Lescott

Newcastle United striker Michael Owen is named in the England squad for their upcoming Euro 2008 Group E qualifiers against Estonia and Russia.

England, who will host Estonia at Wembley on October 13, and will take on Guus Hiddink’s side in Moscow on October 17, are second with 20 points in nine games with Croatia being the leaders with 23 points. Russia are third with 18 and Israel are fourth on 17.

The Three Lions boss Steve McClaren has included the 27-year-old former Liverpool and Real Madrid man in his squad only a week after having undergone a groin operation in Germany.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, who missed the last month’s double-header against Israel and Russia with a thigh injury and is yet to play for the Blues since suffering the problem while training ahead of Aston Villa game, also features in the 27-man squad.

West Ham United front-man Dean Ashton, Everton defender Joleon Lescott and Aston Villa attacker Ashley Young are in line for debut.

Midfielders: Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Barry (Aston Villa), J Cole (Chelsea), Downing (Middlesbrough), Lampard (Chelsea), Young (Aston Villa), Bentley (Blackburn)

Strikers: Owen (Newcastle), Rooney (Man Utd), Smith (Newcastle), Ashton (West Ham), Defoe (Tottenham), Johnson (Everton), Crouch (Liverpool).
