N. Ireland & Man Utd Legend George Best Back In Intensive Care With "New & Severe" InfectionSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Fri, 18/11/2005 - 16:38.
Northern Ireland and Manchester United's legendary striker George Best is again in intensive care, just nine days after leaving the IC Unit in London's Cromwell Hospital, with a "new and severe" infection. In an statement this afternoon, his specialist at the exclusive West London hospital where George Best was admitted six weeks ago, Professor Roger Williams, confirmed that Best had contracted a "new and severe infection" of the kidneys. "He's on dialysis and he is very poorly at the moment," Prof. Williams said. He added that the medical team that are treating 59-year-old Best were disturbed by the sudden setback in his health, after his condition had been appearing to improve in the last fortnight. "He was improving every day up to yesterday afternoon, and he was really pretty good," he added. "He is conscious and just about talking. "It is a big setback after some steady progress over the last two weeks, he was eating, and was making good progress but we are all very disturbed at a sudden setback like this." Best was admitted into the intensive care unit with a chest infection and internal bleeding in early October, where he stayed throughout the month, and only came out of just nine days ago.
