Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka has come to form at just the right time to claim a place in Guus Hiddink’s Australia squad for the World Cup Finals.

The Socceroo’s striker, who had until recently been left out of the first-team at his club side Middlesbrough FC, has come to life with a blistering run of form.

Viduka has scored in his last four Premiership appearances, along with setting up two goals for Steve McClaren’s Middlesbrough and is showing the eye for goal that has been missing since his days at Leeds United.

The Socceroos striker had been linked with a club-move last January, but with the World Cup coming up, Viduka believed it was is in his best interests to stay at the Premiership club, but until recently Viduka had a problem maintaining a first-team place in Steve McClaren’s squad, which could have affected Viduka’s chances of being picked in Guus Hiddink’s squad for Germany.

It is believed that Premiership rivals Everton are interested in the former Leeds and Celtic ace, and may put in a bid for the striker after the World Cup Finals.

Viduka, in a recent interview with the Australian Daily Telegraph said: “I was not really looking to move in January.

“When you go then, you're always making up time, it takes you a couple of months to get settled with your team-mates,” said the former Australia captain Viduka. "With the World Cup coming I didn't really want to do that.”
