Mexico Without Record Goalscorer Borgetti For Angola Match - Bolton Striker May Also Miss Portugal Match
Mexico striker Jared Borgetti's injury in the game against Iran means he will miss one game and possibly the rest of the group stages of the World Cup because of a torn left-thigh muscle.
Borgetti, Mexico's all-time leading goalscorer with 38 goals, pulled up while going after a ball early in the second half in Mexico’s 2-1 victory over Iran on Sunday.
The Bolton Wanderers front-man underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday and the Mexico team doctor Jose Luis Serrano revealed that he had suffered a “Grade 1 tear in the posterior muscle of his left leg… [Borgetti] will be evaluated in eight days to assess his condition.”
Mexico, who are currently topping Group D, meet Angola on Friday, then Portugal in their last match of the group stages on June 21.
