Mexico V Panama - Mexico Hope To Seal CONCACAF World Cup Berth With WinSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Thu, 08/09/2005 - 03:14.
Mexico face Panama at home in their FIFA World Cup qualifier this Wednesday, needing just one more point in order to book their place in the FIFA World Cup Final's in Germany. Panama, who are currently propping up the third round table in the CONCACAF Zone, with only 2 points, have no chance of qualifying for the tournament next summer, and will be hard pressed to get any form of result against a well disciplined, and highly skilled Mexico squad. Adding to this, Mexico have not lost at home so far in this stage of qualifying, and with the altitude at the Azteca stadium, 2240m above sea-level, the prospect for the Panamanians is not too good. Even though 'The Tricolor' only need a point to qualify for Germany, the recent defeat to the USA has been hard for the Mexico squad to accept, and they will want to finish the qualifying rounds as group winners, looking to, among others, their record-breaking striker Jared Borgetti to get a hat-full of goals for his country. The USA are currently top of the table with 18 points, with Mexico 2 points behind them. There are three game's left before tonight's matches, and with Mexico's next games against Guatemala at home, and Trinidad and Tobago away in October, 'The Tricolor' will feel that they are still in a position to overtake the USA and finish off top of the group. Mexico’s squad to be chosen from: Goalkeepers: Oswaldo Sanchez, Moises Munoz. Defenders: Rafael Marquez; Ricardo Osorio; Francisco Rodriguez; Carlos Salcido; Mario Mendez. Midfielders: Gonzalo Pineda; Carlos Morales; Oscar Rojas; Gerardo Diaz; Gerardo Galindo; Ramon Morales; Antonio Naelson 'Zinha'; Luis Perez. Forwards: Alberto Medina; Francisco Fonseca; Jared Borgetti; Omar Bravo. in favorites | email this page
