Mexico V Argentina Confederations Cup 2005 Semi-Final 26/06/05 (17.00 hrs BST)

Mexico take on Olympic champions Argentina in the second of the Confederations Cup 2005 Germany Semi-finals in Hanover today.

The Mexicans have surprised everyone, including themselves, in this tournament, and will be relishing the task against the Olympic champions, and favourites Argentina.

With Mexico having already beaten Asian champions Japan, and World champions Brazil, and having broken the National record of 20 games undefeated, the team will be on a high for this match.

One shock to the team this week was the dismissal from the squad of Salvator Carmona and Aaron Galindo by Mexican Coach Ricardo La Volpe, for what has been described as a breach of discipline, but could also be the failing of a dope test by the two. This means Mexico will be missing two key players from their squad.

Argentina, amongst many other talents, have Juan Roman Riquelme who will want to show the world why he is tipped by many to be the future World Player of the Year, and of whom Jurgen Klinsmann, the German coach said: "I was really impressed by him, he's just about the complete player."

The stage is set for a fascinating contest between two teams laden with skill and talent, and who will both be eyeing up next summers 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals, with more than a small chance that either of the two teams could go ALL the way.
