Mexico Striker Jared Borgetti Frustrated At Missing Squad Place After Refusal For Release From Bolton For Paraguay Friendly

Mexico international Jared Borgetti has voiced his frustration with his club-side Bolton Wanderers after the club refused to release him for an upcoming World Cup warm-up friendly match in the United States.

Mexico will play a World Cup warm-up against England's Group B rival's Paraguay at Soldier Field in Chicago on March 29, but 32-year-old Borgetti has been told by his club that he must remain in England.

The Mexico striker, who holds the all-time goalscoring record for Mexico, is dismayed at the decision and is no doubt beginning to wonder if the move to the Premiership club has been to his benefit.

"I do not understand. I am not playing at the moment," the striker told the Reforma newspaper. "There cannot be any problems with me playing for Mexico. But because the match against Paraguay is not on a FIFA date, my team can refuse."

Borgetti has grown frustrated at a lack of first-team football, adding: "I need to play for me and for my national team.

"Last Wednesday I played 50 minutes (for the reserves). It was not much but it was an official match. Although it did not have a great level of football, I did have more minutes on the pitch."

The striker is almost certain of a place in the Mexico squad travelling to Germany, but his lack of first-team action could possibly relegate the striker to the substitutes bench for the World Cup.

Mexico have been drawn in Group D alongside Iran, Angola and Portugal.

Paraguay are placed in Group B against England, Trinidad and Tobago and Sweden.
