Mexico’s El Tri continued their intensive build-up for the World Cup Finals, beating Venezuela 1-0 in an international friendly match at The Rosebowl in Pasadena, USA on Friday evening.

The Mexicans, currently ranked sixth in the FIFA world rankings, grabbed the winning goal in the 58th minute from the penalty-spot, with Omar Bravo slotting the ball past Venezuelan keeper Renny Vega after striker Jesus Arellano had been brought down.

Coach Ricardo La Volpe’s Mexico team dominated from start to finish and should have won by a bigger margin, but were denied by the hard-working Venezuelan’s.

The match, attended by nearly 60,000 fans, marked the end of a five-match American tour for the Mexicans, who also secured wins against Norway, Ghana and Paraguay - suffering their only defeat to South Korea.

Mexico now have two more World Cup warm-up matches left before travelling to Germany for the start of the finals on June 9.

Mexico’s El Tri will play DR Congo in Mexico City on May 12, before travelling to Holland where they will face former World Champions France five days later.
