It was a disastrous start for Paraguay in this Copa America quarter final, with Mexico attacking from the start and being awarded a spot-kick just two minutes into the match, with Paraguay being reduced to 10-men.

Paraguay goalkeeper Aldo Bobadilla was sent off, and Mexico awarded a penalty, after Bobadilla brought down Nery Castillo in the area. Castillo converted the penalty against Paraguay’s third choice goalkeeper Joel Zayas.

Paraguay fought back gamely but Mexico were in control. They should have increased their lead when Castillo looked certain to get his second, before inexplicably passing the ball to his co-striker, for a goal that was ruled offside.

Gerardo Torrado scored the second goal for Mexico in the 27th minute as they began to take command of the match.

Nery Castillo scored his second goal, having time to control the ball in the penalty area and slamming the ball home to make it 3-0 after 39 minutes.

The game went into half-time 3-0 to Hugo Sanchez's team after having controlled the first-half. Paraguay now face a mammoth challenge to try and cancel the defecit, with Mexico's El Tri in total command of the match as the game went into half-time.

Paraguay came out for the second-half with far more determination, but it was too little too late for Gerardo Martino’s team.

Mexico scored the fourth in the 79th minute, with a strike from Fernando Enrique Arce, Cuauhtémoc Blanco scoring from the penalty-spot for Mexico’s fifth goal in the 86th minute and Omar Bravo sealing a sensational 6-0 win in injury-time to set Mexico a Semi Final encounter against either Argentina or Peru, who play later on Sunday.
