Mexico 2 v 1 Japan
Mexico came from behind to beat Japan 2-1 in their Group B opener at the Confederations Cup thanks to goals from Zinha and Jose Fonseca.
Atsushi Yanagisawa's 12th minute tap-in had given Japan a surprise early lead.
Just before the break Brazilian-born forward Zinha came up with a superb long-range strike to equalise.
Mexico dominated for the remainder of the game and sealed the victory when Jose Fonseca cleverly headed in a Luis Perez cross in the 64th minute.
Mexico are now unbeaten in their last eighteen games and might prove to be the 'dark horses' of this cup competition, should they progress they could prove stiff opposition to either Germany or Brasil.
