Manchester United To Increase Offer For Spurs' Carrick - Reports Say £15m For England & Ex-West Ham Star

Manchester United have reportedly increased their offer for Tottenham and England midfielder Michael Carrick from £10million (€14m) to £15million (€21m).

It has been claimed by The Daily Telegraph that the Premiership giants are due to secure the signature of the former West-Ham and current England international.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s bid of £10m was refused at the end of last week, but the Scotsman appears determined to land the 24-year-old, who is with the England squad on World Cup duty, and to nurture him into a role similar to that of Roy Keane in the centre of midfield.

Tottenham boss Martin Jol has said that Carrick isn’t going anywhere, and are desperate not to sell but, with Carrick stalling on signing a new contract at White Hart Lane, they might have to accept the bid, rather than losing the talented midfielder to a free transfer.

The former West Ham trainee does still have two years to run on that deal but his transfer value would depreciate greatly in the next 12 months if Spurs cannot persuade him to sign a contract extension.

Tottenham are said to have made a last-ditch attempt to keep one of their star players, having offered him improved terms, but the North London club now appear to have resigned themselves to Carrick moving.

With the increased bid, Tottenham could be set to make a £12million profit on Carrick, who moved from The Hammers two years ago.
