Manchester United Say Portugal Star Cristiano Ronaldo Has "No Possibility" Of Old Trafford Move Despite Reported InterestSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Wed, 12/07/2006 - 17:57.
Manchester United and Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo will not be leaving Old Trafford according to a statement released by Manchester United on Wednesday. Ronaldo had said at the weekend that he wanted to leave The Premiership, and that he was set for a move to Spain to join either Real Madrid or Barcelona after feeling let-down by the support he has received from his club, namely from his manager Sir Alex Ferguson and chief executive David Gill, after his role in the sending-off of Wayne Rooney in England's quarter-final defeat to Portugal. But Manchester United wanted to quickly diffuse any rumours of a move, releasing a statement on Wednesday saying: “Manchester United has noted the increasing media speculation over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. “The Club can confirm there is no possibility of Cristiano being sold. He recently signed a new contract until 2010 and the Club fully expects him to honour that contract. “The Club will not listen to any offers for Cristiano,” the statement added. “Ronaldo is one of the brightest young stars in world football as demonstrated by his performances at the World Cup and Manchester United is not in the business of selling their best young players.” Since this statement, the 21-year-old Portugal star has now changed his mind and said that he is happy to stay at Man Utd, but now faces a tough season ahead, appearing in front of 1,00’s of unhappy fans every week in The Premiership, with the undoubtedly talented winger saying that a decision, if any, will be confirmed by the end of the week.
