Man United Boss Sir Alex Ferguson Urges England Supporters To Give Steve McClaren Time To Realise “Great Potential”

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has urged England supporters to be patient so that Three Lions boss Steve McClaren feels no pressure and realises his “great potential”.

The former Middlesbrough manager McClaren, who replaced Sven-Goran Eriksson at the helm after World Cup 2006, has come under fire following the 1-0 midweek friendly defeat by Spain at Old Trafford.

England have now been four games without a win and the fans seem to have been losing their patience as was evident by their jeering of the home team at the final whistle at United’s home ground.

“Steve's not got a great deal of experience of being a top manager but he does have the experience of being assistant to Sven-Goran Eriksson and I think that was a good experience for him,” said Ferguson.

“No matter all the other people that applied for the job, it was given to Steve because of his great potential. He's got fantastic potential and I think people should support him because it would be a shame if that potential was not realised,” Ferguson added.

“I have no doubts about Steve. No doubts at all,” added Ferguson, who was assisted by McClaren during Red Devils’ historic treble in 1999.
