Liverpool's Cisse & Arsenal's Henry To Start For France V China - Ribery On BenchSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Wed, 07/06/2006 - 13:28.
France head coach Raymond Domenech has said will pair Liverpool's Djibril Cisse and Arsenal's Thierry Henry up front in their final World Cup warm-up against China on Wednesday. The former world champions, who won the tournament when they hosted it in 1998, also look likely to start with the two strikers up-front against Group G rivals Switzerland in Stuttgart on June 13. "There is a strong chance, yes," coach Raymond Domenech told reporters on Tuesday when asked whether the team picked to play China would start against the Swiss. France have often played with Henry alone up front but Domenech opted for two strikers in their previous two outings, a 1-0 win over Mexico and a 2-0 victory over Denmark. Promising newcomer Franck Ribery, who sparkled in two short spells against Mexico and Denmark, will not start against China, and probably not against Switzerland either. Domenech seems to believe the best way to use the energetic Olympique Marseille midfielder is as a susbtitute. France have been drawn in Group G alongside Switzerland, South Korea and Togo. Team: Goalkeeper: 16-Fabien Barthez; Defenders: 19-Willy Sagnol, 15-Lilian Thuram, 5-William Gallas, 3-Eric Abidal; Midfielders: 6-Claude Makelele, 4-Patrick Vieira, 7-Florent Malouda, 10-Zinedine Zidane (captain); Strikers: 12-Thierry Henry, 9-Djibril Cisse. in favorites | email this page
