Liverpool Manager Rafael Benitez Wants Javier Saviola Moved to Anfield

The Barcelona striker who impressed the world during the last Argentina match (together with the rest of the team), is linked to a possible move to Liverpool next season, although nothing is certain before Argentina's World Cup fixtures are played.

At the time of this writing, Liverpool team officials have not discussed anything in public, but after Argentina's stunning display against Serbia & Montenegro, rumours of interest from European Clubs is growing.

The player's agent confirmed that Greek Club Panathinaikos FC have contacted the player with a 2.5 million Euros offer for a year-long loan deal with Barcelona, who have confirmed that the player is not into the team's planning for next season.

His contract runs out in 2007, but the Reds are thought to be keen to strengthen the team, after another multi-million pound spending spree by Chelsea's owner Roman Abramovic. Saviola is keen to get first-team chances and Liverpool who have qualified for next season's Champions League are an excellent opportunity for the player, given that Cisse will move on a loan deal.

Whether Liverpool will move to top Panathinaikos' bid remains to be seen, but Saviola would want guarantees of first-team play from his next employer. One thing is certain though, Liverpool fans demand the title...
