Lens’s Stade Felix-Bollaert Faces Uncertain Future As FIFA President Sepp Blatter Urges UEFA To Scrap It for Champions League
French club Lens's Stade Felix-Bollaert faces an uncertain future as far as its Champions League venue status is concerned as FIFA President Sepp Blatter has branded it unfit to host matches there.
Manchester United fans reportedly went through a horrendous time there during their Champions League last-16 first leg match against Lille last week.
Lille’s home stadium does not meet UEFA requirements, hence the match was played in Lens and now Blatter has urged the European football’s governing body to scrap the venue off their list.
"I can't understand that those who organise the Champions League accept a stadium like Lens's to play such a match," Blatter said.
A UEFA meeting of its control and disciplinary body to review the safety and security issues arising from the match will be held on March 22, and a decision on the venue’s future could be arrived at.
