Leipzig's World Cup Finals Draw To Take Place Tonight At 20:30 Local Time

Tonight's draw at Leipzig will separate the 32 teams into 8 groups. The table below shows the allocated slots for each group, with Germany and Brazil heading Groups A and F as host nation and defending World Champion respectively. World Cup Latest will be providing continuous coverage of tonight's draw.

There will be 4 pots with teams and a special pot for Serbia and Montenegro, as they are the lowest ranked team that have qualified according to November 2005's FIFA Rankings.

Pot 1:

Pot 1 contains the 8 highest ranked teams (Germany, Brazil, England, Spain, Mexico, France, Argentina and Italy)

Pot 2:

Pot 2 contains 5 teams from the African zone (Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Tunisia), 2 teams from the South American zone (Ecuador and Paraguay)and the qualified team from the Oceania zone (Australia).

Pot 3:

Pot 3 contains 8 teams from the European zone (Croatia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine).

Pot 4:

Pot 4 contains the teams that have qualified from the Asian zone (Iran, Japan, Korea Republic and Saudi Arabia), and the teams that have qualified from the CONCACAF zone (Costa Rica, USA and Trinidad & Tobago).

* Serbia & Montenegro are to be placed on a special pot.

According to FIFA rules, teams from the same continent may not be placed in the same group, with the exception of Europe, where the number of teams is higher.

Teams coming out of Pot 1 will be placed on top of each group, with the remaining pots filling the spaces below, from left to right. After a team has been picked out of pots 2, 3 and 4, another ball will be picked from a pot containing all the remaining positions on every group, to establish the position of each team in the group.
