Villareal's Argentinian striker Juan Roman Riquelme has missed a penalty against Arsenal which could have kept his side in the Champions League.

Arsenal, who went to Villareal with a 1-0 home-leg lead in the first-leg of the Champions League semi-final, managed to hold back the Spanish Primera Liga side until the 88th minute, when a penalty was awarded to the home-side.

Riquelme stepped up to take the penalty, but German No.1 Jens Lehmann pulled-off a stunning save, diving to his left, to keep the scoresheet clean.

Arsenal then held on for the remaining few minutes to record an historic 1-0 win over the two-legs to take them to their first ever Champions League final against either Barcelona or AC Milan in the Stade de France in May.
