Juventus, Lazio & Fiorentina Gain Italian League Points After Italian Appeal Ruling In Serie A Match Fixing Scandal

In the latest, and final appeal from the clubs involved in the Italian match fixing scandal that saw AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina all receiving point deductions, and Juventus being relegated, three of the teams have seen their punishments reduced in a judgement on Friday.

Juventus and Lazio have now both been awarded an addition of 8 points to their current tally, with four points awarded to Fiorentina, after the final verdict in the last of the appeals of the Italian match fixing scandal were announced on Friday.

The original ruling saw the Italian Federal Appeal Commission finding Juventus, Fiorentina, Lazio and AC Milan all guilty of match-fixing, with Juventus being handed out the biggest punishment after the verdict, being relegated to Serie B and having to start the new season with a 17-point deduction – which would have opened the prospect of keeping them in Serie B for two years - as well as being stripped of the two Scuddetto’s (league titles) they won in the past two league seasons.

The match fixing appeal appeared to have come to it’s conclusion back in July, with all four of the major Italian teams involved receiving reduced penalties from the initial sanctions, with AC Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio all retaining their places in Serie A, and with AC Milan also somehow retaining their Champions League place.

Juventus were relegated to Serie B and deducted 17 points, Milan stayed in Serie A with an 8 point deduction, with Fiorentina deducted a total of 19 points and Lazio losing 11 points for the start of the 2006/07 Serie A season.

Juventus, with the new verdict, now lie in 12th position in the Italian second division, with hopes of a return to the Italian top-flight looking more realistic at the end of the season.

Lazio and Fiorentina - who both survived relegation last season to remain in Serie A – now have both moved up the table. Fiorentina are now out of the red, with zero points, and sees Lazio catapulting up the table, now equal with AC Milan on seven points.
