Johnson Blow For EnglandSubmitted by Neville Nixon on Thu, 15/09/2005 - 11:12.
Andrew Johnson of English Coca Cola Championship side Crystal Palace, has sustained a serious injury. Johnson, who is the only non-top league player in Sven Goran Eriksson's England set up, was injured on Saturday, but the full extent of his injury was not fully realised, prompting his club to now issue a statement in which they have revealed that the striker could be out of action for up to 6 months. Although further scans and tests are due to take place, Crystal Palace's Director of football Bob Dowie fears the worst, "It could be cruciate, but at the very least Andy has a nasty injury, and we may have to wait until the swelling has gone down before we have a clearer picture". The injury will effectively rule Johnson out of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals in Germany, having only just broken into the England squad, the desperately disappointed player looks as though he will join the list of 'one hit wonders' to have appeared for their country. The fact that Johnson plays in the lower league and that it will probably take him a full season to return to match fitness, means that it is highly unlikely that he will ever wear an England shirt again, at least not during Sven Goran Eriksson's managership. in favorites | email this page
