Ivory Coast Captain Bonaventure Kalou An Injury Doubt For Group 3 Clash V SudanSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Thu, 06/10/2005 - 04:32.
Ivory Coast Coach Henri Michel's squad has hit another set-back, with captain Bonaventure Kalou now a doubt for his country's final Africa Zone Group 3 World Cup qualifying match against Sudan on Saturday, after suffering an injury at the weekend. Kalou injured groin muscles playing for his club-side Paris St Germain in a French Ligue 1 match on Saturday, and will undergo a fitness test before a final decision on his fitness is made, Cote D'Ivoire officials said on Monday. The Elephants of the Cote D'Ivoire were favourites to qualify for their first ever World Cup finals had they beaten the Cameroon in their last home match, which Cameroon won 3-2 to take them above the Cote D'Ivoire to the top of Group 3 in the Africa Zone. With Cameroon playing Egypt at home in Yaounde, and likely to win, the Ivory Coast must win the African zone Group 3 match against Sudan to have any chance of qualifying for next year's World Cup finals in Germany. The Ivorians will hope that forwards Aruna Dindane and Chelsea's Didier Drogba can keep up their fine strike pairing, which has netted them 14 goals between them in nine World Cup qualifying matches. in favorites | email this page
