Italy and Fiorentina Striker Luca Toni Sets Azzurri World Cup Finals Target, Denies Barcelona Interest

The Italian international striker is increasingly looking forward for an impressive performance with the Azzuri in the World Cup 2006 Finals at Germany next summer.

The 28-years-old Fiorentina Star has scored 16 goals in the 15 games with his club and is set to beat Swedish star Gunnar Nordahl's Serie A record of 35 goals, set back in 1950.

He is one of the favourites among Fiorentina fans and looks at a very promising season this year in order to ensure a callup in Marcello Lippi's World Cup Finals Squad.

Luca Toni dismissed reports linking him to a possible Barcelona transfer during January's transfer window as "pure fantasy". "All I ever said was that I thought Ronaldhino was the best player in the world."

Fiorentina are not planning to release the player whose contract cost the Club 10 million euros. The Club has big ambitions this year in Serie A, hoping to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions league.
