Israel 2 - 1 Faroe Islands - Israel's 'Diamond' Benayoun Shines In Victory Over The North Sea Islanders
English Premier League club West Ham United's Yossi Benayoun scored for Israel after just 48 seconds in Saturday's 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over the Faroe Islands.
Benayoun, playing with a cracked rib, sustained during an English Premier League for his club side West Ham United in their match against Sunderland last weekend, got his country off to a dream start in a game Israel had to win in order to keep their narrow hopes of qualifying for next year's finals in Germany alive.
Having already played their last game, Israel must wait and see the outcomes of their group qualifying matches. France play the Faroe Islands, in what is seen as a guaranteed three points, whereas Switzerland take on the Republic of Ireland in what is sure to be a 'barn stormer' of a match, with ironically, a draw being the last thing the French or Swiss want.
