Injury To England's Owen Sees Newcastle Ready To Try & Outbid Liverpool For Feyenoord & Holland's Dirk KuytSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Mon, 26/06/2006 - 23:59.
With the injury to England’s Michael Owen, it now seems that Newcastle are ready to try and outbid Liverpool to the signature of Holland and Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt. Many top Premiership clubs have been linked with the Feyenoord striker, who has just returned home from World Cup duty with Holland after being knocked-out by Portugal in the last-sixteen of the tournament. Kuyt has made no secret of his desire to leave Feyenoord and play in the Premiership and there have been reports that Feyenoord have reluctantly accepted a £10m (€14m) bid for Dirk Kuyt after consistent pressure from Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Arsenal. Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has been chasing the 25-year-old Dutch international striker’s signature for over a year, but Kuyt may now be ready to accept offers from both clubs after Michael Owen's serious knee injury, which means that Newcastle are in desperate need of a striker. It is now thought Newcastle will lodge a bigger offer for Kuyt, but is yet to be seen if he will opt for a move to St James' Park rather than Anfield. “I want very much to play in The Premiership,” Kuyt told the Daily Mirror. “I want to join one of the teams at the top… It will give me a chance to show what I can do. At the end of tournament, I find out what all the possibilities are.” in favorites | email this page
