Injury Setback For England Star Owen Hargreaves – Bayern Munich’s Midfielder Targets January ReturnSubmitted by Niraj Prabhu on Wed, 29/11/2006 - 19:40.
England international midfielder Owen Hargreaves will have to wait a little longer to make his comeback with his club Bayern Munich revealing that his broken leg had not healed properly. "Owen Hargreaves needs another two weeks to rest as the bone in his leg has not healed 100 percent," read a statement on the Bayern Munich website. The 25-year-old Hargreaves has not played since September 16 when he broke his leg in Bayern's 2-1 defeat to Arminia Bielefeld. Without Hargreaves, voted England's best player at the World Cup, Bayern have struggled to continue their domestic dominance and lie three points behind leaders Schalke 04. Canadian-born Hargreaves expressed a desire to leave Bayern before his injury and Premier League leaders Manchester United lodged a reported 25 million euro bid. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was rebuffed by Bayern but has publicly said he will attempt to sign Hargreaves again in January. Bayern have said they will not do business and have Hargreaves under contract until June 2010. Hargreaves, however, aims to make his competitive comeback from a broken leg in January after returning to training this month. The 25-year-old has been working separately from the rest of the Bayern Munich team but is optimistic he can join the squad after the winter break. "It's great to be able train again," Hargreaves told Bundesliga.de. "I've got a long way to go but I'm looking forward to the coming weeks and hopefully my progress will be quick." "It's frustrating as every day I see the players going out to training and I watch the games in the stadium," said Hargreaves. "It's difficult because I am working on my rehabilitation and that's been more than eight weeks already.” "But it makes you appreciate being healthy again and I'm looking forward to making a comeback." in favorites | email this page
