Indomitable Lions of Cameroon Coach Jorge Names Squad V Sudan In Africa Zone 3 Qualifiers

Cameroon Coach Artur Jorge has named a squad with only one change from the players that last met up for training earlier this month. French-based defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto has been added to Cameroon's line-up for next month's all-important World Cup African Zone Group 3 qualifier at home to Egypt. The "Indomitable Lions" Coach Jorge called on the un-capped defender to join the 22-man squad in preparation for the match in Yaounde, the Cameroon Capital on October the 9th.

21-year-old Assou-Ekotto was born in France and qualifies because he has a Cameroonian father. He plays his club football for Racing Club Lens in the French Championnat League 1.

The Cameroon Football Federation named their squad on Sunday for their final match in the Group 3 Africa zone. The 'Indomitable Lions' of Cameroon have to win this match to make sure of World Cup finals place, and with the Cote D'Ivoire just one point behind them in the group, (on 19 points), they cannot take any chances against the talented Egyptian side. If they manage to get there it would be a new African record of six consecutive appearances in the final's.

Egypt, with 16 points, have only just failed to stay in the race to qualify, but they will be playing for a place in the African Cup of Nations. Cote D’Ivoire know that their fate is in the hands of the Lions of Cameroon. The Cote D’Ivoire are playing their match, away to Sudan, two days earlier, on the 7th of October, and, should they attain a result against Sudan, they will have to wait an agonising 24 hours for the result of the Cameroon match to know if they have qualified for the World Cup Finals next summer, or not.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto will take the place of Chelsea FC wingback Geremi in the squad, who will miss the match through suspension after having picked up another yellow card in Cameroon's last World Cup qualifier, their dramatic 3-1 away win over the Ivory Coast in Abidjan.

The former group leaders needed only a point to qualify for the finals next summer, but were astonished by a well drilled Cameroon team, that managed a shock defeat to the 'Elephants of Africa'.

That result re-ignited Cameroon's chances of qualifying for the World Cup, lifting them above the Ivory Coast to the top of Group Three of the African zone qualifying stages.
