Holland Squad For World Cup Named - Liverpools Kromkamp In, Ajax's Huntelaar OutSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Mon, 15/05/2006 - 15:44.
Holland head coach Marco van Basten has named his 23-man Oranje squad for the World Cup Finals in Germany. Van Basten has failed to name Ajax striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, omitting the freescoring forward from his squad for the World Cup Finals. Huntelaar was the leading scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie with 33 goals for Ajax and former club Heerenveen in the 2005/06 season but, despite his lack of international experience, his admission was a shock in light of recent remarks by Van Basten that implied that Huntelaar would be certain in making the trip to Germany. Van Basten has called on Liverpool's Jan Kromkamp, who, even though has mainly been used as a substitute since his January move from Valencia. Van Basten, who originally thought that Kromkamp had thrown his chances by moving to Anfield said: "Although Jan played less games than we hoped for - we want to have two players for all positions and he did very well at Oranje when he played."
