Oranje head coach Marco van Basten has named 28 players that will gather to train, of which 23 players will be making the final Netherlands squad for the World Cup in June. Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Edgar Davids has been left of Holland's 28-man pre-World Cup squad by coach Marco van Basten. Also left out by van Basten was Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma, with Bayern Munich striker Roy Makaay and AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf the big name absentees. The Oranje coach has not said whether or not any of the players that have been omitted could be included in his final 23-man squad, which must be named by FIFA's 15 May deadline. Liverpool defender Jan Kromkamp has been included, even though van Basten had previously said that he considered the move to Anfield a bad career choice, that may have affected his World Cup chances.
