Holland & Spurs Midfielder Edgar Davids Feels His Premiership Form Warrants A Place In Van Basten's Netherlands Squad

Netherlands and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Edgar Davids has said that he has no doubts that he should be in the Netherlands squad for this year's World Cup Finals, and believes he is playing the best football of his career at Spurs.

However, despite his impressive club form this season, the 32-year-old midfielder was surprisingly left out of Marco van Basten’s Dutch squad for their World Cup warm-up friendly in which they beat fellow World Cup qualifiers Ecuador 1-0 last Wednesday.

Davids guaranteed that there has been no bust-up with the Oranje Head Coach Marco van Basten, and is still confident he will chosen to play in the World Cup in June.

“When you play regularly in the Premiership there is a big possibility for me to play at the World Cup. Playing in the Premier League is not a walk in the park,” said Davids.

“I have not spoken to Marco Van Basten about the situation, but we are all grown-ups and professionals. We will wait and see what happens.

“I'm sure Marco will be looking at a number of players and to see who is in form. Every player feels they should be involved at the World Cup.

“I am just focusing on Tottenham and will wait and see what happens at the end of the season. The most important thing for me is to focus on the task ahead for my club side.”

Spurs currently lie fourth in the Premier League, two points ahead of local rivals Arsenal with a game in hand, as Martin Jol's team chase a top-four Champions League spot.

Davids is hoping the Netherlands can go all the way in Germany, but the former AC Milan and Barcelona star knows his country face stiff competition from England who he believes are among the firm favourites to win the World Cup.

“If you look at all the positions in the England team they have some really good players,” said Davids.

“I think it is possible that England could go all the way in the World Cup. The problem for England is that Holland will be there as well.”

And Davids will desperately hope that he is there in Germany to help the Netherlands do it for their first ever time.
