Hiddink Ruffles A Few Feathers
Australia's new coach Guus Hiddink has aroused the displeasure of a whole host of leading European football club managers by demanding that his players are made available for three weeks of training sessions in Holland.
Hiddink's demands seem to be his way of stamping his own brand of control in the Socceroos camp in a move that will not make him popular. The problem facing the Australian squad is that the players are scattered all over Europe and not being able to get them altogether in the same place at the same time has proved to be one of the main reasons for their lack of cohesive play in their qualifying for major tournaments in the past.
Of course, whether the clubs comply with Hiddink's request is another matter, cynics might even expect a long list of sudden injuries to manifest itself on the eve of the training camp.
