Hamburger SV Hope To Add To Transfer Of Guerrero From Bayern - Roy Makaay or Pizarro Out If Man Utd Accept Van Nistelrooy Offer

Bundesliga side Hamburger SV hope to take extra advantage of the current Bayern Munich transfer activity, with it looking like another striker will follow 22-year-old Peruvian striker José Paolo Guerrero from the German champions this summer.

Guerrero, who signed for Bayern during the 2004-05 season, joined fellow countryman Claudio Pizarro at the Allianz Arena, but signed a transfer from Bayern Munich in June that will keep him at the Hamburg club until 2010.

Bayern Munich’s honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has said he is readying the club for the loss of one of Bayern’s strikers should Manchester United agree to their latest £12.6 million (€17 million) offer for unsettled Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Beckenbauer, the German World Cup legend known as Der Kaiser, said: “if it (the transfer of Ruud van Nistelrooy) does work out, I could imagine us giving away Roy Makaay or Claudio Pizarro.”

Beckenbauer is predicting that another striker could be heading to Hamburg, saying: “We could reach another deal.”

29-year-old Makaay, who moved to Bayern in the summer of 2003, was an immediate hit, scoring an incredible 31 goals in Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League matches in his first term, but with the introduction of Lukas Podolski and the possibility of Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy at the club, the Dutch international may be ready for a move.

27-year-old Peruvian striker Pizarro has had a good record at Bayern, scoring a total of 41 Bundesliga goals in the last three seasons, but the forward, nicknamed ‘Pizza’ at Bayern, sustained a serious fracture of the skull on Copa America duty for Peru and had to accept a lengthy lay-off from competitive action, with his recovery almost complete.

Hamburg, who are still believed to be in the market for a striker, had an offer refused for Milan Baros by Aston Villa and by Valencia for former Oranje star Patrick Kluivert, and now the option of some cheaper fringe-players from Bayern may prove their best option as the new strike-force at the AOL Arena.
