Half-Time: Argentina 3 - 0 Serbia and Montenegro - Two Goals From Atlético's Maxi Rodriguez & One From Inter Milan's CambiassoSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Fri, 16/06/2006 - 14:48.
Argentina have gone into half-time 3-0 up against Serbia and Montenegro in their World Cup Group C match on Friday. Argentina’s Albiceleste started the match well in command, forcing a corner in the second minute, and pressing for an early goal. That goal came after just six minutes, with Maxi Rodriguez scoring after some lovely build up play from Argentina. Javier Saviola passed a lovely ball into Rodriguez’s path for him to unleash his shot past Dragolav Jevric in the Serbia and Montenegro goal. Luis Gonzalez was stretchered–off the pitch after seeming to pull a groin muscle in the 16th minute and was replaced by Esteban Cambiasso. Serbia then managed to get an attack together, for the first real time in the match, but the Argentina defence held strong to deny them a clear chance at goal. Mateja Kezman had a runa at goal halfway through the first-half, but was easily shepherded away for a goal-kick. Serbian defender Ognjen Koroman was treading a fine-line. After having been cautioned in the early part of the game- and now will be missing the game against Ivory Coast - he kept bringing players down just outside his penalty area and giving away some dangerous free-kicks. The Serbs were awarded a fre-kick just outside the Argentina penalty area in the 26th minute, but was wasted. Both teams had half-chances to score, but it was the substitute Cambiasso that doubled the Albiceleste lead. After some lovely buid-up play from the Albiceleste, involving a run of over 20 passes, Chelsea’s Hernan Crespo did a lovely back-heel straight into the path of Cambiasso, who drilled it past Jevric and into the roof of the net. Argentina were rampant throughout the first-half and made their dominance pay in the last minutes of the half. Saviola made a great run into the penalty area and his shot was well saved by Jevric, but Maxi Rodriguez was there to knock the rebound into the net to make it 3-0. Serbia pushed for a goal, forcing a corner in the last minute of the first, but it was easily played away, and the score stayed at 3-0 until half-time. in favorites | email this page
