The Black Stars of Ghana, have qualified for the World Cup finals next summer, for the first time in Ghana’s history. They qualified with a 4-0 win away to the Cape Verde Islands, Joetex Frimpong opened the score-line in the third minute, and from then on it was plain sailing for The Black Stars.

With Ghana going into the match only needing a point to completely guarantee a place in the finals, the Black Stars started the match against the Cape Verde Islands brimming with confidence.

Stephen Appiah, the captain of the Black Stars, along with fellow European based stars, Chelsea Fcs Michael Essien and Vitesse Arnhems Matthew Amoah all know what it will mean for the Ghanaian Nation, to have qualified for the World Cup Finals for the first time, and the country is celebrating wildly at the prospect of the finals in Germany next Summer.

Ghana qualify from Africa Zone Group 2 at the expense of former group favourites South Africa and the DR Congo. South Africa’s ‘Bafana Bafana’ have underachieved badly in this qualifying campaign, and will have to look ahead, to the African Cup of Nations, to make up for it.

With recent World Cup qualifier wins over the Congo Dr, Burkina Faso and South Africa, Coach Ratomir Djukovic's side now lie 62nd in the latest FIFA standings, and this win will propel them much further up in the next rankings, due to be published by FIFA later this month.

In explanation for the improvement in form that the Black Stars have been going through, Coach Djukovics modestly said, “Now every player gives 100% for their National Team”.
