Ghana Captain Stephen Appiah Snubbed Arsenal, Barcelona To Stay With Fenerbahce
Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah has gone on record saying he snubbed offers from Arsenal and Barcelona earlier in the summer.
The 26-year-old Ghana captain, who showed his mettle at the FIFA World Cup finals in Germany earlier, claimed that he was approached by the Gunners and La Liga and European champions Barcelona.
It is believed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is an admirer of the former Juventus man, while Barca were in the market for a new midfielder after selling Mark van Bommel
However, Appiah says he turned down the overtures of both clubs to stay at Fenerbahce, a Turkish club, after joining the club at the start of last season. "I said to all clubs (Arsenal and Barca were just two of the many clubs that approached him) that, no, I preferred to stay at Fenerbahce,” he said adding that Arsenal and Barca had made “very attractive offers.”
