Ghana Black Stars & Brentford Striker Lloyd Owusu Injured & Likely To Miss World Cup FinalsSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Thu, 27/04/2006 - 19:19.
Ghana Black Stars and Brentford FC striker Lloyd Owusu’s dreams of playing in the World Cup have all but disappeared after suffering an injury. 29-year-old Owusu was injured during Ghana's friendly match on Wednesday, suffering a groin injury and now faces up to eight weeks on the sidelines. The 29-year-old had hoped to be included in the Ghana squad for this summer's finals in Germany, but sustained the injury while making his debut for the Black Stars in a friendly against German club-side Würzburg. This not only means he is ruled out for the rest of Brentford’s season, but he will also not be fit into time to represent Ghana in their first ever World Cup Finals - a massive double blow. After the pride of being selected to represent his country in their latest friendly, Brentford manager Martin Allen gave out the bad news today. "The injury will keep Lloyd out for between six to eight weeks," said Allen. "He will miss our remaining games, as well as the World Cup." Owusu, who has scored 14 goals in all competitions for ‘The Bees’ in the 2005/6 season, will now be out of the running for a place in Ratomir Dujkovic’s Black Stars squad. Martin Allen signed Owusu on a free transfer in the summer of 2005, stressing that Owusu was signed not due to his popularity at Brentford but on his footballing ability alone. Allen said of Owusu’s injury: ”It's obviously a big disappointment." in favorites | email this page
