Germany Squad To Face USA - Neuville Replaces Injured Hanke, Kahn Expected To Start Instead Of Arsenal Keeper LehmannSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Wed, 22/03/2006 - 01:04.
Germany boss Jürgen Klinsmann, like his US counterpart Bruce Arena, has had some injuries of his own to deal with ahead of Wednesday's friendly World Cup warm-up match, one particularly serious. Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Deisler has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will be sidelined for at least six months, meaning he will miss the World Cup. Germany coach Jürgen Klinsmann was also hit by the news that midfielder Torsten Frings and striker Mike Hanke will both miss Germany's World Cup warm-up against the United States in Dortmund on Wednesday because of injury. Frings hurt his calf in Werder Bremen's 3-1 Bundesliga defeat away to Nuremberg on Saturday and Hanke suffered a bruised hip in VfL Wolfsburg's 1-O home defeat by Hamburg SV, the German Football Association said on Sunday. Klinsmann has recalled Borussia Moenchengladbach striker Oliver Neuville to take Hanke's place. Goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, who was been forced out of Germany's squad for the 4-1 mauling at the hands of the Azzurri in their friendly on March 1 due to a thigh injury, is expected to start in goal at the expense of Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann. Germany squad to face USA (team to be chosen from): Goalkeepers: Oliver Kahn (Bayern Munich/Germany), Jens Lehmann (Arsenal/England), Timo Hildebrand (VfB Stuttgart/Germany).
