Germany defender Robert Huth has confirmed that he will move from English champions Chelsea to Middlesbrough following the World Cup Finals. After a frustrating season spent mostly on the substitutes bench Huth has chosen to leave Stamford Bridge for an undisclosed fee.

“There were a few clubs that showed interest but Middlesbrough made me the offer I liked best,” the 21-year-old said on Sunday. “The contract is still not signed because this is the World Cup and there’s no time, but it will be done next week.”

Huth revealed his pleasure that Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho had sanctioned the move: “Chelsea and I have agreed that it was better for me and the club to swap sides. I am looking forward to a new challenge and hope I can establish myself at Middlesbrough. I have had six great years with Chelsea and I have learned a lot,” said Huth.
