Germany Management Deny Reports That Arsenal Keeper Jens Lehmann Has Been Picked Over Bayern's Oliver Kahn
The Germany national team management have denied reports on Sunday that coach Jürgen Klinsmann has picked Arsenal's Jens Lehmann over Bayern Munich captain Oliver Kahn as his starting goalkeeper for the World Cup.
"I can assure you that no decision has been made," assistant coach Joachim Loew told Premiere television.
"Both players will get their chance. But no decision has been made yet. This report was pulled out of thin air. It's completely wrong."
Kahn has been the German number one for many years now, and who led Germany to the 2002 final against Brazil.
But since Klinsmann took charge in 2004 and said the job was open for both goalkeepers to affirm their places in the squad based on form, Kahn has been involved in a testy duel for the Germany No.1 shirt with Kahn's long-time understudy Lehmann.
Focus magazine reported that Lehmann had the advantage over Kahn because the Arsenal keeper's style fits better into Klinsmann's attacking philosophy, but the German coaching staff were quick to deny the rumour.
