Fulham FC's English Goalkeeper Anthony Warner Agrees to Play for Trinidad and Tobago's Socca Warriors

Instead of a usual Club transfer during January's transfer window, Fulham FC's English-born goalkeeper agreed today to join the Trinidad and Tobago national football team.

Anthony Warner made his debut appearance with Swindon Town, back in 1997 and has only played in UK Football Clubs including Liverpool, Swindon Town (debut appearance), Celtic and Aberdeen.

A delegation from the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (T&TFF) held talks with Warner and both sides agreed, in a rare "transfer". Speaking to reporters he said that he last visited Trinidad and Tobago back in 1995.

Warner also said that his Trinidad passport is not ready yet. The player was happy to join the Socca Warriors, as his father was born there.

Many players who play for various clubs in England and Scotland attended the London meeting.

"Yes, definitely it is a great step for me and I'm really excited about being given the chance to play for Trinidad and Tobago," Warner said.

"After being at Liverpool and then Cardiff before finally signing for Fulham, the invitation from Trinidad and Tobago was definitely another big one for me and I'm hoping that I can add some value to what's happening with the football in this country."

"I expressed interest a while back but obviously there were some reasons why I haven't yet played for Trinidad, but now I make a full commitment with the move to Fulham and so on."

"I know about Shaka, Clayton and Jack, and it's surely going to be good competition for the spots."

However, Warner is not 100% certain he will be able get into the starting line-up, as he faces competition from West Ham's Shaka Hislop, Dundee United's Kelvin Jack and Coventry City's Clayton Ince.

Both Shaka Hislop and Kelvin Jack were in the starting line-up in the last dramatic World Cup Qualifiers and the Play-Off against Mexico which gave the Socca Warriors the ticket for Germany's World Cup Finals.

Brent Sancho, who represented the T&T players said that "right now we are teaching him the national anthem and he's fitting in well."
