Frank Lampard Hails Peter Crouch For England Call-Up In Group 6 Qualifiers

England and Chelsea FC midfielder Frank Lampard has given his full backing to the possible inclusion of Liverpool striker Peter Crouch to the England squad for the upcoming World Cup Europe Zone Group 6 qualifiers early this October.

Crouch’s massive height advantage, and constant movement both on and off the ball caused the Chelsea defence massive problems in their Champions League match against Liverpool in their 0-0 draw on Wednesday.

This has caused the Chelsea captain to speak his praise of the Reds striker, saying in an interview with the English FA, "I could have told you before that Crouch is one of the best at what he does."

"Every team gives you different problems and at Liverpool it was Crouch. First and foremost he is good at what he does, holding the ball up and trying to bring people into the game.” said Lampard.

"He poses a different kind of threat to what you encounter elsewhere and does it very well…You know when he is playing he is going to get hit with a lot of long balls and you have to deal with it” continued Lampard.

Crouch has been adjusting well to the style of play at Anfield since his move to the European Cup holders from the newly relegated Southampton FC in the summer, and is well on course for a call-up from the England manager Sven Goran Eriksson for the matches against Poland and Austria.

In what may seem a plea to the England Coach for the inclusion of the 6’7” striker not only in the England squad, but as a possibility for the starting eleven in at least one of the matches, Lampard finished off by saying, "he has got great feet and not only does he flick the ball on but he is a good player with his feet. He will be pushing for an England place for sure. He is fresh and different."

"He played well last night and is someone we can use."

High praise indeed from the midfield maestro!

Sven’s England squad for the upcoming matches against Poland and Azerbaijan will be announced on Sunday evening.
